Deep brain stimulation research at the Queensland Brain Institute delivers great rewards
The Queensland Brain Institute is a truly amazing organisation….here, some of the world’s leading neuroscientists are working to ‘crack the brain’s code’ to bring new understandings of aging and chronic diseases and vital insights that underpin brain-activated bionic solutions!
QBI’s Asia-Pacific Centre for Neuromodulation is a world leader in using deep brain stimulation to revolutionise the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases. 15 years of world-class deep brain stimulation (DBS) research at the Queensland Brain Institute has delivered great rewards with neurologist, Professor Peter Silburn and surgeon, Associate Professor Terry Coyne having now completed over 1,000 DBS surgeries. Before having Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), Parkinson’s patient, Ken Smith, could no longer sign his name or use a computer.
Ken tells his story here: https://qbi.uq.edu.au/blog/2018/11/15-years-world-class-deep-brain-stimulation-research
